《写歌的人》创作人音乐分享会

On 9 March 2012, in collaboration with DoppelKafe, Very Imaginative People organized our very first music event-a Chinese songwriters' showcase.

Entitled “写歌的人” (xie ge de ren), which literally means "People who songwrites", this showcase's objective is very simple-to provide local Chinese songwriters with a platform to perform their works with anyone and everyone. I've always loved intimate and cosy gigs. It's a really rewarding feeling, to be able to organize such meaningful events, even more when fellow songwriters express that they are happy to be performing too. This is what music is about :) My hopes is for the songwriters to be able to share their story behind the song; and for music lovers to hear first-hand from the songwriters themselves.

The crowd was small but super attentive. I've been performing in the English independent gigs since 2002 and I must say the crowd culture is totally different. The audiences at English independent gigs are much vocal, expressive and outward in their support, whereas audiences at this Chinese independent gig is quiet and reserved. But one things for sure is that some of the guest that came that night were of influence, so this again proves quality is more important than quantity.

I'm looking forward to organizing the next one in April! My hopes for the next series: larger crowd and more songwriters signing up for open mic.

And oh, check out the GREAT photos Billy took for us that night!

Second Set: Since I couldn't find the 6th songwriter in time, I had to perform. Guess what? I forgot my lyrics!!! But I had a good time nevertheless.

Second Set: Well known local artist-Will Ng. Superb guitar skills and beautiful melodies from this guy.
