The Passing of a Genius

I still can't fathom why a product, a supposedly hard cold, lifeless, commercial, meant-to-only-suck-your-blood item can make such an impact to billions of people. I still can't understand how Steve Jobs did it. The magnitude of his influence is ginormous. This phenomenon is so rare and great to witness...

When I woke up and saw my friend's Facebook status, I quickly navigated to apple.com and there he was, his black and white portrait with his sharp and piercing eye staring back at me. My heart dropped. It's real. "Steve Jobs. 1955-2011".

When I was 18 years old, fresh out of high school, I started to take an interest in songwriting. This little innocent discovery soon turned into an obsession, I just wanted to write and write and get my songs heard. That's when I started to look around for a recording software. During then, home recording was still a very, very new concept. I remember trying one or two supposedly great recording softwares, but I also remember that upon launching the software, I stared at it for a while, and it stared back coldly at me, as though challenging and mocking me, "so you think you can handle me, little girl??!". I clicked one or two buttons, and I quit the software. Too complicated. Too intimidating.

I considered enrolling myself for courses, but since the fees were quite expensive, I skipped the thought.

One day, papa and I were in Midvalley and we were surveying around for recording softwares and systems. No luck, until we passed by a shop called 'Gallant' or something, something that pulled us into the shop. The sales person, I still remember his name till now, Ben, asked what we were looking for and we told him that we're looking for a system that'll allow me to make music. I think all in all, in less than 15-minutes of so, we walked out of the shop with an iBook G4 and Garageband software (it was sold separately at that time). That was my first step into the Apple kingdom. It's true, once you go Mac, you won't go back.

Two days before Steve Jobs passing, I was having a drink with papa and his industry friend at a mamak near factory. Papa was going on and on and on about how Apple is incredible and how wonderful the iPad is. He kept encouraging his friend to buy one. Sitting next to him 'pitching' Apple to his clueless friend, suddenly I felt so touched and proud. It's just the feeling of someone believing in what you believe in... and wanting to share that 'discovery' with another person (wow, Apple is a cult!).

The very reason why I started VIP in the first place... wanting to continue sharing the goodness of Mac and how it makes your life easier.

Many people commented how he was a tyrant and all. But c'mon people, if he wasn't like that, do you think Apple would have become what it is today? Definitely not :)
